Alex Pall, the original member of The Chainsmokers, talked with Interview Magazine after the release of “Closer,” one of The Chainsmokers’ biggest songs. The interview consisted of talks concerning the music making process, future plans, and singer Halsey, who was a featured vocalist on “Closer.”
The interviewer’s first question concerned how Alex Pall met his current partner in music Andrew Taggart. Pall started from the beginning, explaining that he always had an interest in making music.
“It’s scary being in the city pursuing something that feels more like fun than a job,” said Pall. Pall continued, explaining that he was in an art gallery when he realized that dance music was the most important part of his life. Shortly after this realization, Pall was introduced to Andrew Taggart, who would become the other half of The Chainsmokers.
Andrew Taggart was going to school in Maine just before meeting Pall. Taggart was also working as an intern at Interscope Records, so he knew people in the industry. A contact who knew Pall’s manager spoke to Taggart about possibly meeting up with Pall, and Taggart jumped at the opportunity.
“I quit my job, and that’s where it all started,” said Alex Pall.
“Closer” quickly became one of The Chainsmokers’ biggest hits, and it currently sits at over 2 billion views on Youtube. The song was popular for a number of reason. First, it is simply a good sound. Second, it marked Andrew Taggart’s debut in front of the microphone. Third, it features Halsey, one of the most popular up-and-coming pop acts in recent history. If you couldn’t tell already, this is a recipe for success.
Speaking of Halsey, during the interview, Alex Pall had nothing but praise for her.
“She’s incredible,” Pall said in reference to Halsey. Pall revealed in the interview that Halsey was high up on their list of future collaborations. In fact, according to Pall, Halsey was number one.
